Migraine organisations hope NICE review of BOTOX will end misery of chronic migraine
Posted 19/01/12
Migraine Action has joined forces with MIPCA (Migraine and Primary Care Advisors), a professional interest group for primary care, to lend their support to BOTOX® (botulinum toxin type A) as a preventative treatment for chronic migraine prior to a Technical Appraisal Meeting by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) on 24th January 2012.
In July 2010 BOTOX® was licensed for the preventative treatment of chronic migraine in the UK by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) after consideration of data that included PREEMPT* studies. BOTOX® currently remains the only licensed drug for chronic migraine, a condition defined as individuals experiencing headaches for 15 or more days per month, with migraine on at least 8 of these days.
