Also, as you know Botox is not my first method of treatment. It is however, sometimes the 'golden bullet' for those patients who 'kind of' respond to my other treatment

So happy it's been given NICE go ahead!

Unfortunately the PCT have stated they won't be making a care pathway at present due to lack of demand. 600 patients in the area isn't really lack of demand!

If I can generate enough interest they will open up a care pathway.

Doesn't help those who suffer right now though!

I have just had another round - which I had to go private for......... this is so frustrating - whilst NICE have given it the go ahead - its now with the local PCTs to sort out and they seem to be dragging thier feet......... I was told in clinic we are looking at January........ I kind of remember that being told me this time last year Sad

............ having said that I have to say Botox has been amazing for me and I really do hope everyone who can gets to try this.......for some it works straight away - but others like me have to have a few rounds to get it working to a high level.......... I for one will continue with this and pray the PCTs get thier act together soon

After coming across the Migraine Surgery Centre website and learning that they use Botox injected into the eyebrow area to determine if you'd be a candidate for having surgery to remove the corrugator muscle (which is used to form frown lines), I just wondered if anyone else has heard/had this procedure and any thoughts on it?

I spoke to my docs at length re this as I have had such a good result with Botox I thought surgery would be THE long term solution............ but he basically said it was too early to consider - and that the doc who was pushing it in the UK was from Germany and in it for the money and had been asked a number of times to present data to doctors and he always declines........ plus my doc had had a number of people who had had it done and it had not worked but made it much worse and then 'normal' ways do not tend to work........... I was told to keep it in mind and let the data come in before considering it........ mean while more Botox....

That's interesting to know. No I haven't had botox, I seem to just be exhausting the medication route! Finding it very difficult to progress further into treatment due to GPs refusing to do anything and struggling to get appointments with neurologist, hence the research online. I have contacted the migraine surgery clinic and arranged a free consultation regarding the procedure. I intend to go to the consultation and just see how it goes and what they say!

Yep it's frustrating when the system grinds to a halt!

On the up side I've gotten the HM under control for another patient this week. Always VERY satisfying professionally when I can do that

Lauren - you can ask your GP to refer you to another Nero - if your done with the local ones then ask to be referred to the national referral hospital from Migarine - which is National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square London.......... you are within your rights to ask for a new consultant x

That's brilliant thank you. I've managed to obtain an appointment with my neurologist privately but not via the NHS! Will definately consider being referred somewhere else! x

Is there a maximum number of twelve-weekly Botox treatments?
Do they continue to help at as many as the tenth round?
I would welcome feedback.
Also:why no comment since 2012 on Botox at this site?

Everyone is different with all drugs including botox. I am on my 16th round and still continue to gain benefit. I have had some on the NHS trails - some private - and some on the NHS under the NICE guidelines. You must be chronic and have tried a number of other meds before they will consider you for botox - but if you have tried lots I really would advocate giving them a shot (pardon the pun)
