Re: OMG Iodine
Oh Sarah - just remembered the capsules - may have to change over - this is a liquid you drop into water - what brand for the seaweed capsules?
Re: OMG Iodine
It's pretty potent stuff, isn't it?!! As I said on the other thread, it definitely raises the acid levels in my stomach, so I wasn't able to cope with a strong dose. I'll find a link to what I'm taking... hang on!
I am taking these - 2 a day:
http://www.xynergy.co.uk/Brands/Seagreens/seagreens-wild-seaweed-food-capsules-60-caps
They also do a high iodine one, which works out slightly less iodine a day at a dose of one a day than two of the others:
http://www.xynergy.co.uk/Brands/Seagreens/seagreens-everyday-iodine-capsules-60-caps
I haven't tried that one yet, as I thought it would probably be better for my stomach to spread it over two doses. Plus the other minerals in the seaweed caps ought to be useful too, hopefully.
If you did still want to use a stronger one, you can get a tablet, but I think only in the US. I order from this place all the time, as the shipping is ridiculously cheap - you do need to stay clear of the duty charges and order small though (I forget the figure... it's around £25 I think)

Re: OMG Iodine
How about eating seaweed sprinkled on your food. Its cheaper from Chinese supermarkets than healthfood shops and they offer a far wider variety to cook with.

Re: OMG Iodine
I have been doing that and eating a lot of sushi wrapped in seaweed - but I am not sure it is enough - I just want to do a 3 week course of this to see if it makes any difference - I am wary of this one - as you can get wrong!
The thing you have to watch out for in Chinese is that you are getting seaweed - they often deep fry kale or spring greens then it is flavoured with salt, sugar and sometimes MSG (monosodium-glutimate) a flavor enhancer also called Chinese salt

Re: OMG Iodine
Nope I did not mean take aways.
I meant the supermarkets that supply Chinese and Japansese communities. Most towns have them and they do stock large ranges of various seaweeds in dried and frozen forms.
Just had a thought some Welsh coastal towns and similar may well sell fresh seaweed or if your savvy and know what your doing you could go and find your own on the shore lines.

Re: OMG Iodine
Speaking of iodine, I was just reading how much fluoride competes with iodine for absorption. This is bad news for me (and might explain a lot), as tea is my very favourite thing, and is naturally really high in fluoride.
Time to stop drinking so much, I think - everything in moderation!

Re: OMG Iodine
I've stocked up on fruit tea and am about to start cutting down my favourite brew. Got to do it though - there is no point in taking iodine if I'm taking in loads of fluoride every day that competes against it.

Re: OMG Iodine
I am not sure of the liquid iodine you are taking, but I took something called Dynomyte a high mineral liquid that you put into water. It sounds very similar as it left me thinking surly my throat would spring a leak due to the burning sensation. What my doctor suggested was to get a gal. water bottle and add it to a bottle and drink through out the day. It made it much easier that way and the bad taste diminished considerably. I hope this helps. I would be interested in hearing how this iodine flush works for you. It is funny because recently I bought some seaweed and really enjoyed it as a snack.

Re: OMG Iodine
Oh = I have now tried a few ways - I just cannot swallow it any more - I gag at the smell....... so I have started to eat more in the way of seaweed - not seen any difference as of yet.....
Re: OMG Iodine
Just to update on this, I've found with the seaweed capsules, they gave me a real boost, then seemed to stop working. I noticed this once before. And, since it's very possible to over-do iodine, I'm not wanting to take too much or do any mad experiments.
Anyway, I've been reading about homeopathic iodine (Iodum), and that it can sometimes help the body absorb iodine better from the diet etc. The same applies to homeopathic magnesium (Mag Phos). So, I figured I haven't got a lot to lose by trying the Iodum, which I started yesterday.

Re: OMG Iodine
Oh do keep us informed..... I have found a hair analysis company today - I am thinking about having it done - £60 for full mineral and vitamin screen....
Re: OMG Iodine
I'll be really interested to hear if you go ahead. One thing I have heard about hair analysis is that the hair should not be washed by the lab, as that can badly affect the results. What does it say about this for this company you've found?
