IV Paracetamol
Just though I would mention this one.
Now we all know that paracetamol via the normal oral route does practically 'bugger all'..but a few times I have been given it as an IV infusion.
It was administered to help in the management of biliary pain (pancreatitis/renal colic type stuff). BUT whilst I was having this I did notice that my headaches subsided quite considerably at times and it lasted a few days.
Has anyone else had this done in hospital for any reason and found it helped. The funny thing is it helped better than DHE..but obviously it didn't last for a long period.
I wondered if it is ever used to curtail status migrainous?

Re: IV Paracetamol
Paracetamol kicks off my IBS and has me rolling on the floor... so cant take it in any form and was addicted to codine as a teenager so both these are off my lists of treatments, although I will take codine in a severe bout of pain I never take it unless I really have to as I know how addictive it is.
Maybe you can have a weekly "transfusion" and see if that helps. GPs love us telling them what to do for us!!!!

Nah they wouldn't do it sadly..just wondered if it had helped anyone in status migrainous?
At my neuro dept my DHE was cancelled 4 times (twice on the day of admission) and then when I finally got a bed they realise they didn't have enough DHE to start my treatment. They kept saying 'you are going to have to go home and come back another time'.
My response was very mature..I locked myself in the loo and howled like a 4 year old. They felt so bad they rang and had some couriered in. There was no way I was leaving the bed I had waited 6 months for.
Can't imagine how stressy I would get if I asked for a regular inpatient treatment LMAO..if only eh?
