Hi from a new member

Hi there

I have been suffering from migraines since I was 18 (over 20 years now) and for the past few months they have been getting steadily worse that in the last month I think I have only had one migraine free day. Has really been getting me down. Have an appointment with a neurologist at the end of the month but really hope they can suggest something.

Am currently on topiramate but that is no longer working as I think the migraines are hormone related. Dont think that the stress I have been going through has been helping and possibly am also a little depressed (but dont want to go on anti depressents due to a bad reaction to them last time).

Have heard that one of the triptans, Migard, is meant to be good for hormone related migraines so going to try and get that from the doctor but at the moment am feeling pretty tired, fed up and at the end of my tether with it all.

But good to meet you all and hope to get (and give) lots of advice and support

Hi and welcome.

I take Migard for my hormonal migraines, and it's the only triptan that I've found helpful for several years now (all the others I've used became ineffective alarmingly quickly). The thing with Migard (Frovatriptan) is that it takes at least an hour to take effect, but it is long lasting. This suits me, as nothing works if I don't go to sleep anyway.

Sorry your having a rough time, I cant help on the triptans as I cant take them and cant help on the hormonal bit either as i dont have any bits left either!!! but can relate to the pain if thats any help!!

Hello and welcome..sorry you are having a more difficult time right now. If you are experiencing such frequent attacks then yes you probably need to try a different preventative method.

Let us know how you get on and I really hope things start to settle down and improve soon.

Sorry you have been suffering for so long and that they have now gone chronic. You are amongst friends here But its good you have a neurologist appointment - I hope it is a headache neuro you are seeing?

As Jane as said, since your now having so many a new preventative is probably going to be on the cards, the consultant will sort that out. As Topamax has worked before you may find he suggest another Epileptic drug. ie Epilim. Do let us us know how you get on, I think between us, we have been every preventative there is LOL

I also take Migard, and find it very effective, once it kicks in
