Do you have other medical problems?
There seems to be a lot of people out there who have a number of other medical conditions as well as migraine, and they seem to be the same ones........................... interesting........... so what other conditions to you have?
If its not on the list - add it here as a note - you can only have 10 in a list grrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi
I also have a severe Fruit Allergy, mainly with Apples, Bananas, Pears, Peaches, Plums most berry fruit except strawberries, and certain vegetables too numerous to mention here the list goes on.
I suffer with severe anaphylactic shock if a minute bit of the fruit passes my mouth, but take 180mgs of Antihistimine each day for the veg allergy but have to top it up with upto 50mgs of piriton tablets if I start to have a shock coming on, and up to 4 epipens which I carry around with me all the time plus instructions if I have a shock and I cannot do it myself also contact details and ICE (in case of emergency) contact number in my mobile phone.
Only had one real severe shock and was hospitalised for 3 days and never seen so many needles in a body, had 7 adrenalin drips in various parts of my body even into arteries right by heart to stop it from pumping so fast, it was touch and go, (so I was told afterwards) they were at one point going to cut into my wind pipe to get an airway in but managed to bring my breathing under control... sorry this has been long but thought I'd tell the story as this allergy is very rare.

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
OMG - That sounds like a total nightmare - I have heard of people having a rash with plum before, but nothing like that. - You poor sweetie.
Have you ever taken Fluarazine for your migs? I ask as it was developed as Antihistamine back in the 60s - I think. I found when I was on that my chemical allergies went down and I never got hayfever, so it helped with both issues. It just made me very sleepy, hence why I am trying other stuff - but I have it in mind to go back to - if all fails.

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
I have had severe pancreatitis and sphincter of Oddi dysfunction..my liver is a 'bit dickie' and I have scarring on the lungs due to the complications of the pancreatitis.
I have permanent horners syndrome too..but that is a direct result of the prolonged mig attacks.
If I hear one more doctors say 'oh we have never had that happen before'..I think I may implode..but I strongly suspect I am not alone on there lol.
Especially after reading the above.

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
I have some nerve degeneration in my back, hypothyroidism, long term gastroparesis (slow stomach), mold allergy (I can detect even the slightest bit), Pork allergy (how weird is that?) also sensitive to artificial sweeteners and think Aspartame is one of my triggers. Osteoarthritis. I think I was low on the gene pool, as many of my health issues seem to be genetic. All my ancestors wanted to pass along something to their off spring, guess they ran out of the really good stuff before they got to me. Ha ha..... hey, we have to laugh don't we?

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
My husbad's italian grandmother used to half joke that "youth is wasted on the young.". I have to say there is truth in that saying; because just when we are mature enough to know how, what, and why to have fun, as well as understand the beauty in nature etc., and what you really want and NEED to do with all the youthful energy of a 5 year old, is about the same time the metabolism goes and the body starts falling apart. Sometimes we just have to look at the raw humor in life and laugh. If nothing else a good laugh creates some much needed endorphins.

Although it would hurt to much to even smile today
But I have to say, I have met so many people with chronic mig who still have the ability to smile and laugh - got to be the kind of people we are LOL

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
Hay fever for one month each year. But it's getting less severe as I get older.
One collapsed and one compressed disc in my lower back. Happened in 1967 and was a problem for many years until I learnt how to manage it.
I had polio when I was 7 years old and its possible I may now have post polio syndrome.
Other than those (and the migraines) I'm in the best of health

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
Hi, I also suffer from ME and Thyroid disfunction-Hypothyroid and symphosis pubis disfunction-pelvis that is easily shifted out of place. I wonder if there is a connection? Really interesting to see the list and tick several boxes! Sometimes I wish I could go to a shop and just swap my body for a healthy one!
However I managed to swim for Kenya when I was 15, played tennis for my county, and ran a few charity runs before my body decided to misbehave. I have a super husband, joyful kids and wonderful friends who say that I always manage to make them smile, sooooooooooo am I just being tested? Mmmmmm.xx
Quick note-I was on Amitrypiline for Fibromyalgia pain and help with sleeping since the ME prevents me from reaching REM sleep, but changed to a higher dose of Nortrypiline to help with the MIgraines and reduce side effects-seems to be helping.

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
I have rheumatoid arthritis, and one of the drugs I was taking for that made my migraines much worse and landed me in hospital with a migraine so bad they thought I'd had a type of stroke.

I've got polycystic ovaries and recently found out food intolerances to yeast and cows milk! Has anyone else got food intolerances and has eliminating these foods helped your migraines?

I don't tolerate gluten very well, or cow's milk. Neither makes any difference to my migraines though.

Re: Do you have other medical problems?
In short I've had a number of medical issues - gallbladder removed and hiatus hernia. I'd be interested to know if there are others with a hiatus hernia/oesophagus problems with migraine issues - in particular with aura migraines mimicking TIA/stroke related symptoms (numbness/tingling).
I've been trying to get more info on this to see if there is a link, but haven't been too successful.
Medications are topiramate, amytriptaline plus omeprazole.
Can no longer take Ibuprofen for migraine as it sets off my hernia.
Have also suffered IBS related issues, and constantly juggling the diet to compensate migraine/IBS/hernia. I haven't found specific food allergies (except for too much caffeine) to migraine, but more of a lack of certain foods sets it off, whereon the other hand I'll suffer IBS or hernia issues if I do indulge in a certain food. So it's a game of dominoes.
Stress triggers off both the hernia/migraine either simultaneously or in dominoes.
