Migraine and sports writers - grrrrrrrrrrrr

I get a lot of press cuttings about migraine in sports people - most are from the USA and refer to American football........... I have stopped reading them............ but a few have caught my eye today and are being to bug me............ they seem to imply that having a migraine is part of the course of the sport........... have they no idea what damage they are doing pushing these young adults.......

Here is a quote from one today.

"If you don't have an extreme migraine at the end, you weren't trying hard enough in the reasons room," she said, smiling. "Our coaches are always waiting for us with food, water and Advil."

The other thing the writers do alot is refer to the stress of the game and the coaching decisions as a 'migraine' eg

A return to the national team should be his next target though it is a little too early for him to cause any sort of selection migraine for head coach as

I think this belittles the illness............. I am sure we could cope with a few game plan decisions over a real migraine!

Grrr... they just mean a headache. This is exactly the sort of attitude we have to put up with the whole time, isn't it, people using migraines and headaches interchangeably? It really winds me up when people say things like 'how are your headaches?' I'm sure they think I should be able to just take a painkiller, which will sort it out within the hour. I've never used the word headache for my migraines, so why should they? I'm fairly over-sensitive about it, I know!

I understand your sensitivity. I often refer to having a "full-body migraine" for this very reason.

This was the advice of her coach - she later had to leave the tournament on health reasons...
