Fort Lauderdale, FL, August 03, 2011 --(PR.com)--

Described as intense, throbbing, and pounding pain, migraine headaches affect more than 28 million Americans. Though the exact causes of migraines are unknown, it is believed that they are caused by inherited abnormalities in the brain. Most, though not all, migraine attacks are accompanied by headaches, but there are many other symptoms associated with migraines; such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound.

Migraine sufferers may inherit the tendency to be affected by external environmental and physiological factors which lead to migraine headaches. These triggers include emotional stress, anxiety, excessive fatigue, sensitivity to preservatives in food, exposure to light, changing weather conditions, etc. Only a small portion of migraine sufferers, however, can clearly identify the triggers.

The Public Television series, “The Journal” with Joan Lunden, hopes to educate viewers on the causes and symptoms of migraine headaches. This knowledge will help individuals prone to migraine headaches avoid the triggers associated with their inception. The series will outline medication and treatment options and highlight organizations and medical professionals dedicated to prevention and treatment of migraine headaches.

“The Journal” and its programming are not affiliated with PBS. The programs are independently produced and distributed to Public Television stations nationwide.
