UK charity Migraine Action is joining forces with one of the world's largest low-energy light bulb manufacturers
UK charity Migraine Action is joining forces with one of the world's largest low-energy light bulb manufacturers, Megaman, in a joint project to study the effects of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) on people with migraine.
The World Health Organisation has classified migraine as amongst the top twenty most disabling lifetime conditions. It is estimated to affect one in ten people in the UK, with symptoms including a severe headache, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, numbness, speech difficulties, confusion and a sensitivity to light, sound and smell.
Many migraineurs have reported a link between the use of low-energy light bulbs and an increase in the severity and / or frequency of their migraine. With the EU-wide ban on traditional incandescent light bulbs, this will see the last disappear from sale by 2012, migraineurs are hugely concerned about the detrimental impact that using the new CFLs will have on their quality of life.
