I looked eye-to-eye at Michele Bachmann when she entered the Quad-City Times building.
"We have a common bond," I said to the Republican hopeful who wants to be president of the U.S. of A.
She had a puzzled smile.

I replied, "We're both migraines."

That called for a quick hug. At that moment, nothing else particularly mattered. The Times editorial board, with whom she was to meet for an hour, could wait a few minutes.

We both have migraine headaches, which makes us bonded members of a group that doctors call "migraineurs." I had been waiting months for Michele Bachmann to visit the Times so we could commiserate.

When God made man, he made only a few mistakes. One of them was migraine headaches. Only 10 percent of Americans have migraines. Understand now, migraines are not your everyday headache. Migraines are eye-bending, head-pounding hell.

Bachmann has been targeted by some as unfit to be president because she has migraines. There may be other reasons why she should not be president, but not her migraines.

I have been hacking out words for this sheet for 67 years and have never missed a day of work because of a migraine headache. Some days I have had two of those migraine auras that can trigger physical problems I would rather not talk about.
