Fascinating to see that the idea of food as medicine has now been taken up by a new TV programme, ‘The Food Hospital’. At long last!

Hippocrates, in 1450 B. C. was already saying 'Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.' As I have said many times before, it is just basic common sense that we should pay much closer attention to the quality of the chemicals that we ingest every day.

Hippocrates also said 'Leave your drugs in the chemist’s pot if you can heal the patient with food.' But dietary habits, as we all know, take a long time to change. Whilst dietary intake should remain at the forefront of preventative medicine, the reality is that many people’s diets are inadequate. So should we be recommending a multivitamin? This question may be even more pertinent when considering iatrogenic nutritional deficiencies, which is what I will reflect on today.
