Hormonal Migraine
Welcome to the hormonal migraine thread.
Female migraineurs tend to be more susceptible to an attack around the time of their period and menstrual migraine is defined as occurring within two days either side of the first day of a period and at no other time. Hormonal factors are one of many triggers for migraine and attacks may be prevented if other triggers are avoided around the time of their period for female migraineurs.

Re: Hormonal Migraine
My migraines are not hormone related in the normal sense. Before I became chronic then if I had my period then I wouldn't have a hemiplegic migraine so I used to cram as much into this week as possible. The only problem was that I have PCOS and so I never knew when I would be in cycle!

Re: Hormonal Migraine
My migraines are very hormonally-driven. Something I find odd though, is that my worst migraines don't fall into the category that experts call 'menstrual migraines' - ie they often aren't in the preceding two days or first two days of my period, but on days 3 - 6, sometimes even as late as day 8.

Although mine are not classed as hormonal either, I do find that during my period my pain level and aura level is higher too. If you keep a migraine diary it worth noting a P for period and looking at the collation over a few motnhs.
Re: Hormonal Migraine
Like you Sarah, I also get attacks mostly from day 5-8 which is out with the classic "menstrual migraine" My doc wanted me to get the depo provera injections but when i went to the nurse to be given the injection she advised me not to as they can give migraine as a side effect.. pfffft i give up on docs sometimes.

Tee - thank you for posting the link about migraine in menopause.
Makes me think that I should give other triptans a try.
