Feeling down Empty Feeling down

Post by akrohn Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:21 pm

It has been two and half weeks since my last Botox, and I am beginning to think that it's not working. I am on headache 3 of the week. Usually, I may have one little headache after the Botox. This week, I have either been in pain or in the hangover stage every day. This is not a good sign... No

Oh poppet I am sorry - I have only had one experience of Botox and it took my at least 4 weeks for it to settle...... I do hope it settles for you soon xxx

Did they do it in the same places - same levels as last time?

So sorry to hear this. Those migraines seem to find a way to break through, don't they? Sad I really hope it's just a temporary setback for you.

I actually had more Botox, and I think it was in the same spots. It's hard to remember exactly with the shots being 3+ months apart. I can usually feel the effects by now. And, of course, I woke up with a headache again.

Well, I spoke with my neuro's assistant today. She said that the doctor thinks that my headache is a reaction to the botox toxin and that it should be gone by the end of the week. If it is not gone, the doctor wants to do an IV DHE therapy in the office next week. I have had this once, many years ago. I didn't get great results. It lessened, but didn't completely relieve a 6+ week headache. Have any of you guys ever had the DHE treatment & if so, what kind of results did you get?
Part of me is expecting it to be a waste of time. confused

Firstly I am pleased to read that he is going to try and help Smile

I had DHE via IV over 5 days a few years ago and it did knock the pain down a little - but it was not the huge success we had hoped for - although saying that I am still in contact with one of the other ladies I was in hospital with and she had a great success with it and it broke her cycle. As always, we are all different. You have to try hun and hope Smile

I had mine inhospital over 3 days last time, and it could just be that the treatment should have been longer. I'm hoping I will be better by the end of the week, but realistically, I doubt I will be. It would be nice if he could guarantee that i would be feeling better afterwards, but of course, nobody can do that. The good part is that he doesn't admit you to the hospital for the treatment. I just can't do that with my husband working out of town so much right now. Driving an hour each day for the treatments won't be fun, but if it helps at all it will be worth it.
Anyway, I'll stop complaining and try to remain optimistic. Thanks for listening (reading).

Thats good that you do not have to be admitted - Smile on the drive though.

The good thing with DHE is that if its going to work - it works quick - not like you are starting a new drug and having to wait months to see if it works!

Lets hope you will not need it and the botox settles down.

They can give it to you quicker if you can tolerate it..Over in the UK you have to be admitted and be under supervision. So I am amused to here of the drive thru process..made me smile.

Yes most people and aI mean a large majority do benefit for DHE..some it totally leaves them painfree for good periods of time..others it reduces the problems.

If you don't have any other issues with the treatment then definately give it another try.

I am with Tracey though in hoping you the Botox effect settles and you won't need it.
Good luck

Well, no such luck on the headache resolving itself. I'm headed to Charlotte to get the IV DHE, Magnesium and Depacon infusion. I'm hoping this will break the headache. I am so worn down.

Really hope that it does the trick. There is nothing more wearing or scary than a migraine that just won't respond to anything. Sad Thinking of you x

Akrohn - Are you still feeling better? I do hope so. I've used DHE injections at home to try to break a long continuous headache. Initially it worked, but then quit working. I have wondered if it was given by IV - would I would have had a better result. My fingers are crossed for your good luck.

Thanks for asking, Lib, the DHE did work. This time, they gave it along with Magnesium, Decadron, and Compazine ( I was feeling a little nauseated). It didn't work immediately, but it did start to relieve the pain before I left the clinic. I wasn't quite pain-free by the time I went to bed, but doing much better. The next morning, I was completely without pain. I called to ask the neuro if he wanted me to come back for another round, and he said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". It did the trick!

I have been thinking of asking him about the injections and if he was comfortable with me doing those at home. He just recently moved to a new clinic, which is an hour away. An hour ride is torture with a migraine, as you probably know.

Hoping you're pain-free,
Andrea

So glad to hear your good news. That is fantastic! I hope the attacks stay at bay for a good long time.

I had no problem giving myself the injections at home. I think they can be given in the muscle or just under the skin; I gave them just under the skin. Mind you they do hurt a bit - but while it was working it was worth it. I still keep some around for an abortive. Sometimes it helps - sometimes it doesn't.
