Hi everyone, im glad i found this forum, i have felt so alone for the past six months! I collapsed at work last september with my first migraine, i lost conciousnes, i woke up three hours later in hospital, The pain lasted for three days i couldn't lift my left arm until the next day, they kept me in for four days did a brain scan and a lumbar puncture, Since that day i have had 79 aura migraines affraid At first my Dr put me on propananol but it did not work, i am now on topiramate it has not stopped the migraines completly but they are less frequent and slietly less painful, i also take sumatriptan which helps but like the topiramate also comes with its own side effects! The worse thing is, is that i have now lost my job because of all the time that i kept having off Mad My life really sucks at the moment! To top it all my partner has become really abusive since i lost my job, i know i should leave him but i know that signing on will make me stressed and when i get stressed i have a really bad migraine and if your late to sign on ive been told that they stop your money! I have so many attacks im worried i would loose my house signing on would be difficult for me! How on earth to you get your life back and hold a job down?

Babes for a mo You dont sign on!! x x x You dont have to leave your house and go to a dole office and physically sign a bit of paper ....you are ill you do it over the phone once and they send you the form!!! Money will come through almost straight away......
But what you also have to do is loose the looser NOW!!!
The only person that knew this up till now was Tee but I WAS with an abusive ex and had cancer and he turned worse when I was ill so he went straight out the door and social paid the interest on my house mortgage,I got better and I have never looked back and met my lovely caring new hubby,but then I got HM and Paul looks after me!!. So get shot of him and the stress and look after YOU GIRL......we are all here to help, some on here are really good with DHSS and will be on soon to talk to you I'm sure....You are not alone now.

Gosh you do have a lot to cope with.
It may be helpful to contact or woman's aid charity in the city you live nearest to get advice about the situation with your partner. Money worries can often make people anxious and angry and amplify any problems that preexist. It is important you keep yourself safe is a relationship that has become abusive can be as much a source of stress is the thought of leaving your home. If things ever do become bad to make contact with the police as they can offer intervention, access to medical help if need be a refuge. I hope things are not that bad I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Keep talking with the doctors especially if you've been recently diagnosed and have gone from no migraines to lots. Asked to be under a neurologist who specialises in headaches if you haven't got one. Talk to your GP to access both the specialist headaches support and about ways of coping with the stress you are under.
If you have a medical condition that has existed for longer than six months then you can start to apply for disability related benefits. It may be worth talking to both the job centre near your home as well as the DSS disability benefits line for new claimants. You should be able to access this via the DSS disability web page. If you have concerns about losing your home you need to talk to your mortgage provider if you have a mortgage or your landlord if you rent. There is also a useful website run by credit action a charity that provides information to people trying to make a little money go a long way which has helpful links to both statutory and charity advisors.
You may find at the moment with so much stress in your life it takes very little to set up yet another migraine. If you are poorly there is nothing wrong with taking either a friend or other form of advocates to sign on. You need a source of income for yourself especially if there is a need for you to leave your home suddenly. If you have paid national insurance you're entitled to apply for the job seeker's benefits although if it's a chronic migraine condition you may be better with employment support allowance and I do recommend talking to the job centre and asking them which route is the best for you to go down. Hoping you have more peaceful weekend and get some rest and that you feel able to go and get the support and advice and help you need to begin to get your life back together.
Be kind to yourself if you can suddenly finding you have an illness and losing your job on top of relationship difficulties will be hard on anyone. Let us know how you coping and keep yourself safe.

Firstly welcome Sharron Smile

I am so sorry you are having such a stressful time - you have a lot on your plate there hunny.

Sorting this all out is going to take time - but we will help as much as we can - one step at a time sweetie.

Both Sheena and Katie have given heaps of advice and I concur with it all - it might feel a little over whelming now - but one step at a time and it will get better. The less stress you have the better the migraines will be. Pace yourself - go through what the others have said above and write a list - once its on paper it is a plan and that will make you feel a little less stressed - do one thing at a time and rest in between. Ask us as many questions as you like - even if they sound silly and even if you just want to vent - that is what we are here for.

Right now your safety is the most important thing. If you feel you are not safe then please do call a women's shelter. If you need help finding one, just let us know your location?

If you feel safe then do give leaving a serious thought, being with someone who is abusive is not going to help you at all. He needs to understand that migraine is a debilitating illness, for which there is no cure, BUT you can manage it - it just takes time to find the management technic that will work for you. You need support right now not added stress.

Then come Monday call the DSS - as Katie has said there are a number of illness related benefits you will be entitled to - I explained that I could not see straight and had problems completing forms and they did the forms for me over the phone. It did take a while but the lady was lovely and allowed me time to rest. I have never had to go in and sign. I did have a medical years ago and they signed me straight off. I have also had work interviews. Again once they saw how ill I was they let me be. It is all doable it just takes a little time.

They good thing in all this is that you have had a reaction to the Topamax, you might not appreciate that right now, but because the migraines have gone down a little, that means you are treatable Smile Its just a matter of finding the medication that works for you the best and there are quite a few out there to try. I concur with others you do need a specialist headache neurologist, there are some medications that only these consultants can get. GPs are limited to what they can do. Under Useful Information is a list of all the UK headache clinics and NHS hospitals, just ask your GP for a referral. You will find info on most meds and procedures on the other threads - but please do just start another thread if you need to.

Am really hoping you are able to get some independence back soon, in order to get your life back on track. As Tee said, it's a really good sign that the Topiramate is helping, even if only a little.

Thank you all for you support, sorry it took me a while to get back, was having a bit of time out trying to figure my life out! Im taking much better care of myself and im glad i found you all Smile I am taking steps to get my life back on track!
