Doctor Despair... AGAIN! Empty Doctor Despair... AGAIN!

Post by Nekoha Fri Apr 20, 2012 9:03 pm

As I wrote in my last post about my neurologist visit, my neurologist has suggested that I get 500 ml drip infusion every 14 days as a preventative measure for migraines. As I don't want to go all the way to his office for this treatment, he wrote a letter asking a clinic doctor near my home to do the drip infusion. Well, I went today (it has been 13 days since the last IV, and I have a bit of a migraine starting), but the doctor REFUSED to give me the infusion! He says it is "unscientific" and there is no evidence that it will work. I told him "Okay, well, I got the infusion 13 days ago and only had ONE migraine in that 14 days, when my average is 2-4 per week! That is EVIDENCE, in my opinion!" But he STILL REFUSED! And he told me that my neurologist isn't a headache specialist, and I need to go to a headache specialist. He recommended someone, but what good does that do the migraine that is starting NOW?! He was very eager for me to go to his recommended specialist, as this guy has all sorts of clinical trials going on right now. I am just so FRUSTRATED I could SCREAM and CRY!!! I don't want to try some drug that isn't even approved for use yet. I have been on EVERY preventative medication that is available in both the US and Japan, with limited or no success. And now my husband wants a baby, so I am trying to stop all medications. Yet, to be honest, I don't know if having a baby is such a good idea. I can't even keep a job due to the pain in my head. How good a mother can I be?!
Lots of dark thoughts going on in my head right now, and the migraine is ramping up. I was so hoping to avoid this one, but the stress of that doctor's visit didn't help at all! Going to bed. Probably going to be taking Fioricet very soon...

I am so sorry. I can understand having all these "dark thoughts" with these events. I believe the doctor at the clinic had a responsibility to tell you and your neurologist that he would not provide the IV before you arrived for treatment. And even then he still had an obligation to treat your pain. Big shame on him.

Can you go back to your neurologist (even though the travel time is long) for the IV until you two locate someone that will work with you?

Hugs. I hope the sleep helps.

Oh I am sorry to read that - have you called the consultant to see if someone else can do it for you...

But have to say after the experience of the last consultant - this might be a blessing in disguises as you have the name of another doctor and you DO NOT have to go any trials .... but you may get another view on the migs and better help than you did with the existing consultant.... I know that does not solve the problem now, but might be worth talking to the new doc too...

As for the baby, thats a hard one......... I have 4 and must say I loved being pregnant as I never had a mig in the 9 ths ..... but you will need help once the baby is born and that is something hubby is going to have to understand and commit too - my hubby was very hands off with my first 2 but HAD to take over for the twins and if I am honest he is a better man for it... xxx

Thanks, you all!
Laura, I was really disappointed with the doctor last time I went. He really made me feel like I am making a big deal out of nothing over my "headaches" (he refuses to believe they are migraines, despite the fact that 6 doctors have diagnosed me with migraines over the years). The clinic doctor yesterday is actually a neurologist, too, and he reconfirmed that I DO have migraines (big surprise!) and told my husband that the neurologist I have been seeing doesn't know what he is doing. That's why he really insisted I go to the new clinic.
Now that I am hours out from the whole nightmare (and the migraine is GONE!), I am really agreeing with Tee now! My husband is on the same page. He asked me to write down everything so he can make a presentation to take to the new doctor! He says that he wants to get all the information 100% clear and make a good case. So, that made me really happy!!! He's a really great guy, and I am blessed to have him on my side. I was really stressed about the whole baby thing last night and he said "Don't stress about it! We should wait a while, anyway!" And then reassured me that I would be a fabulous mom, even with migraines. I love you His proof is that I am a "great mom" to our cats, even on my worst days. What a great husband I have!!
Feeling tons better today, ready for the next step!
Thanks so much for your support!!!
